United Way Regionally
Promoting Volunteerism on a Regional Scale
Vision Statement: The vision of the United Way Regional Volunteer Center is to build capacity throughout Northwest Indiana by promoting volunteerism.
History: In 2003 the United Way of Porter County added the Volunteer Center as an initiative to increase the capacity of the non profit community in Porter County by
promoting volunteerism. In April, 2003 the Volunteer Center launched Volunteer Solutions, a web based software that allows non profit organizations to post their volunteer opportunities and
the public to connect with an agency of interest easily, quickly, and efficiently.
In 2007 services were expanded to Lake, LaPorte and Starke counties and the name was changed to the United Way Regional Volunteer Center. To serve the non profit community in the other
counties a Volunteer Coordinator is housed at the Lake Area United Way to serve the needs of Lake County and a Volunteer Coordinator is also housed at the United Way of Porter County to serve
Porter and Starke counties.
