Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

Become a Volunteer

As a volunteer, you’ll provide tax preparation service to taxpayers who do not have the ability to prepare their own tax returns. Don’t know that much about taxes? Don’t worry — you’ll receive specialized training from a certified VITA volunteer or IRS employee. Some of the volunteer opportunities include being a greeter, a reviewer, a tax preparer and more. The hours are flexible, the free training is easy and the time commitment is minimal.

The volunteer application is available here. If interested in volunteering at United Way of Porter County in Valparaiso, fill out the application and email it to George Kuebler, VITA Site Supervisor, at or call 219-464-3583 x128.

United Way of Porter County is one of 15 organizations that make up the Northwest Indiana Asset Building Coalition, which provides VITA program services in Lake, Porter, Pulaski and Starke Counties. For more information about coalition efforts, click here.

If interested in volunteering at a different location, email your application to Teresa Flores, NWICA VITA Coordinator, at or call 219-794-1829 x2430.
