United Way of Porter County (UWPC) is hosting its 5th annual
Valparaiso Half Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 9, with all race proceeds going to UWPC’s
Power of Youth Council. The student-led program holds fundraisers that benefit
community programs that are focused on youth self-esteem.
Over 600 race participants and 100 volunteers from Northwest Indiana and neighboring
states are expected to attend. Beginning at 8:30 am at the United Way of Porter County
office, the race course features a flat and fast route, split times at every mile, energy drinks and water stations, and a half-way party including Power Gels. All participants are invited to attend the tented post-race festival with local food and a live DJ.
Runners can register for the half marathon online through 4:00 pm Nov. 8. Registration
costs $50 through Nov. 8 and $55 on the day of the race. All runners will receive custom finisher’s medals, and runners who register before Oct. 27 will receive a long sleeve technical race shirt.
The Power of Youth Council, a United Way initiative, is comprised of Porter County high
school students who encourage youth to become leaders, make an impact and recognize
the importance of youth involvement in the community.
The student-led program holds fundraisers that benefit United Way-supported youth self-esteem programs throughout Porter County. It offers students the opportunity to be
advocates on issues that affect teens, participate in community service projects, build
leadership skills and network with other high school students in the community.
