United Way Exceeds Campaign Goal: Raises $2.1 Million
VALPARAISO–Community members contributed $2,105,981 to United Way of Porter County during the 2005/06 campaign. This represents 109.9% of the campaign goal.
"This is truly remarkable," said Paul Von Tobel, United Way Campaign Chairman. "We are so grateful to the tireless volunteers and generous donors who made this possible." Von Tobel thanked his Campaign Cabinet and Loaned Executive team for their hard work, perseverance, and enthusiasm during the campaign at the 2005/06 Appreciation Dinner on May 15.
Three Porter County organizations were honored for their Outstanding Employee Campaigns:
- Home Mountain Printing was recognized for its long-standing support of United Way. They achieved a 16% increase in their workplace campaign with 78% employee participation. Home Mountain Printing is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2006.
- Valparaiso Community Schools received an award for its 16% increase in employee giving and the strong endorsement of United Way at all faculty and staff meetings by Dr. Mike Benway.
- Mittal Steel USA, Burns Harbor and United Steelworkers LU 6787 were awarded for the Mittal Steel Regional United Way campaign, in which workers gave $695,000 to United Way of Porter County, a 26% increase over contributions from last year. In addition, Mittal Steel USA, Burns Harbor recruited 55 leadership-level donors who made gifts of $1,000 or more.
Contributions to United Way of Porter County are invested in programs that save and change lives for residents of our community. In partnership with local businesses, unions, government, educational institutions, and 37 health and human service agencies, United Way does "what matters" to make Porter County a safe and healthy place to live.
