Over the past twenty years, United Way has conducted seven Needs Assessments in Porter County that have been a major influence on the funding of programs within agencies. They have helped assure that the most urgently needed programs appropriate for United Way funding are made available. The assessment is also able to identify unmet needs that may be appropriate for funding.
The Needs Assessment is conducted every three years in order to assure that United Way volunteers best distribute the funds available from the annual campaign. We are monitoring the changes in our communities' needs in order to better serve the people of Porter County.
This extensive survey is accomplished with the input of community residents including donors, local public and private agencies, government officials, law enforcement departments, social workers, educators, business and labor leaders, and retirees.
The most recent Needs Assessment was conducted in 2000. Following is a ranking of all study programs into priority groups.
