Enjoy the solitude of shaded country roads and rivers, vistas of rolling farmland and prairies covered with native wildflowers as you bike through the Indiana Dunes and countryside on a route populated by more animals than people.
Lorie Kirkley was a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at Porter and an avid cyclist. Lorie died in 1999 after she was abducted from her home.
The Visiting Nurse Association sponsors this event in Lorie's honor. Proceeds from Lorie's Ride will support the programs of the Visiting Nurse Association in memory of Lorie Kirkley.
Lorie’s Ride is for experienced riders, novices, individuals and groups and allows you to pick your distance of 12 – 100 miles using four intersecting loops of approximately 12, 25, 38 and 62 miles. Your registration includes a continental breakfast, food at stops along the route and lunch. You can even receive a free ride and a free t-shirt if you obtain pledges or make a tax-deductible donation of $50 or more.
Lorie’s Ride begins at Westchester Intermediate School, off Indiana 49, 1050 S. 5th St., in Chesterton, Indiana.
On-site registration at Westchester Intermediate School is from 7 am – Noon CST. The ride will end at 5 pm CST. Pre-register on-line at
www.vnaportercounty.org/LoriesRide.htm, or by downloading and printing the form from the website. Registration is $20 per person if the application is postmarked/received online by June 2 and $25 if the application is postmarked/received online after June 2.
